Today brought a change to the usual routine by all of us in class taking part in a group task. The aim of this was to film an interview in slow motion. This was inspired by a video on vimeo about the royal wedding. The whole idea reminded me allot of the previous project 50 people, one question, however incorporating slow motion into it gives a whole new meaning. When viewing the royal wedding video it hit me on a personal level by it being a day to be British, the powerful part of it was that the interviews were shown only through the audio, the visuals were just a shot of the person looking at the camera while you can see it is in slow motion. This in my eyes made the answers more valid, more sticking in your mind.
The task was to coincide with the subject of it being Black history month. The class was split into four groups, each to ask the same question "Who's your favorite black icon from past or present and why?" in different areas around college. Filming the interviews went well, we managed in our small group to get 10 or more people to answer the question. The problems we had while filming was that we had to rely heavily on the audio from the camera, this was due to the other groups using the zoom mic. Another issue we had was that we didn't have enough time to film cutaways, we managed to film 2 but we had to finish shortly after.
When it came to editing I wanted the other members of the group I worked in to edit it, this was partially due to the fact I needed to convert my footage from my viral video project.
When it came to screening the videos I was very surprised at what everyone had created, I was even more so surprised on the video I had been part of, the effect of the slow motion had been shown well. What I have learnt today about incorporating slow motion into an interview will defiantly be used in future projects.

Today was another filming task. This time the task was inspired by a vimeo project entitled 'dreams'. To gain a idea of it Paul showed myself John and Jack previous pieces that had been uploaded to vimeo. I all fairness they didn't really captivate what I thought the project was about.
After having a few idea sessions after the rest of the class had been briefed and split into groups, we started to film the dream that Deb had recently. As the dream having a dark and mysterious tone to it, by being on the camera I wanted it to be reflected a lot in the video. This really was done by the titled camera angles, which gave the video an unsettling feel. In all fairness I think that the task went well. There weren't any issues as we all got on well as a team and the finish product turned out well. The music I used "mad world" instrumental, added to that dark tone and unsettling feeling from the nature of the dream itself. The finished video can be viewed via this link. http://vimeo.com/30606011

Today came as quite as surprise as we had told the previous day to wear clothes we didn’t mind getting dirty. I was surprised to find out that we were in fact making a zombie film. This came as a nice little breather for the college work we have to do. The first part of the day involved getting everyone into zombie mode via applying make up. Being allergic to face paint I was picked to play the survivors role in one of the videos. I did find applying the face paint to e.g. Rob, difficult as I have never used face paint before, also I didn't know how to create the best texture for a bruised dead looking face. However I got into the flow of things when Kate helped me and showed me what to do.
The filming of the short film was very enjoyable. I got into the role I was playing quite well and so did the others playing the zombies, very well I will add. The death scenes were fun to shoot by the fact that there were masses amounts of fake blood. Looking back on the whole day I honestly can say that there was nothing went wrong, it was nice to see everyone staff and students enjoying there selves.
The edit is half complete I will be added to my year 2 films page on my blog when finished.

Today was yet another day that was different to the normal routine. Myself, John and Jack were set the task of creating a short documentary on Remembrance day as it was Remembrance day. While we were waiting to get the equipment we needed, we each gave our own ideas into what we thought the film should look like. The idea was suggested to film it similar to the Royal wedding video, in 50 frames. With this idea agreed we went about filming shots of the memorial. We wanted to show it as the memorial being quiet and empty, slowly filling with people for the service. To get this effect we shot the memorial from high up to show people slowly arriving. Before the service started we split into two groups, John went on the high ground to show the masses of people that attended. Jack and I stayed at ground level around the memorial, gaining a more personal view.  What i really felt was best from staying at the memorial during the service occurred during the 2 minute silence. I had my camera set to 50 frames and the shutter speed at 100 and with this captured the emotions of people around me in slow motion, this i would say give it a more emotional depth. The money shot was a elderly woman in tears, which really captures the emotion.
Later on in the day we began to interview people from class. Again we were looking for the same Style as the Royal Wedding. We split into groups, this time Jack was with John filming the interviews and recording the sound. I was then at the monument waiting for interviewee to be sent down to me. I filmed them in 50 frames looking at the camera, i asked each person to contemplate the events of the day. It gave a good effect, and it went well apart from not being able to film two people due to the battery on the camera dying. In all honesty today went brilliantly, we worked well as a team and got everything we wanted. The finished video should look really good.
